Bronx Zoo - 2900 Southern Blvd, Bronx, NY 10460, (718) 367-1010 or 718.817.8700 is the premiere home of wildlife in NYC with special exhibits, rides and attractions for the entire family. Visit Jungle World, the Congo, Madagascar, Bug Carousel, Dinosaur Safari, children's zoo and enjoy 4-D Theater Experience, animal feedings, camel rides and more. Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Martin Luther King Day. Wednesday admission, year-round, is a suggested donation. Bug Carousel - Our favorite insects are all here — a long-legged praying mantis, a bright green grasshopper, even a dung beetle. A spin on the carousel is a great stop in the middle of the park. Open year-round. In cool weather, sliding glass doors enclose the carousel. Tickets are $5.
Bronx Zoo Nature Club - stay informed on nature activities. They will be posting monthly Nature Club activities to encourage you and your family to get outside and explore!

Zoo Play Families (ages 2-5)- during these "Family-and-me" programs, the zoo will use dramatic play, sensory bins, games and a trip to an animal exhibit to help connect children to nature in a hands-on, fun, and educational way. Each session includes live animal visitors as well as free-exploration time, enforcing Nature Start concepts by incorporating open inquiry and skill building activities using play items and natural discoveries. One caregiver is required to attend per two children registered. Unregistered children (including siblings) may not attend, Program is held at 1:30-3:00 pm. Fee is $40 per session. Session will also be held on a seasonal basis and early registration is necessary.
Play Toddlers (ages 2-3) and Zoo Play Kinders (ages 4-5) – can come play at the zoo in a different way! During these "Caregiver-and-me" programs, the Zoo use dramatic play, sensory bins and games to help connect children to nature in a hands-on, fun, and educational way. Special Exhibition: New York City of Trees, a collection of photographs by Benjamin Swett that surveys the City's trees in all five boroughs (including several from Wave Hill), highlights the garden's offerings this season. Swett wants to demonstrate that trees are not only natural wonders but also part of the NYC's landscape and history. The exhibition runs until March 2016.

Explore nature and the outdoors everyday at the Everett Children's Adventure Garden complete with seasonally changing programs, themed outdoor galleries, a natural wetland and two mazes just for kids. Dig! Plant! Grow! Salad Days - Plants and imaginations grow at the Howell Family Garden, where kids are allowed!—no, encouraged!—to play in the dirt. Display gardens, such as the Global Gardens, Bean Tunnel and Salad Bowl, and daily interactive gardening activities delight and inspire. Drop-in activities end at 5:30 p.m. In the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden.

The Van Cortlandt Park Ice Skating Rink is located on Broadway and 242nd Street, just steps away from the last stop on the 1 subway line. Open Sunday-Thursday noon-8pm, Friday and Saturday noon-10pm. Admission is $6 on weekdays, $8 on weekends (starting Friday night at 6pm) and holidays. Skate rental is $5. Helmet and locker rentals are also available. Public Skating Hours: Monday- Thursday, Sunday : 12pm-8pm and Friday –Saturday 12 pm – 10 pm. Pricing :Weekday Admission: $5.00, and Weekend Admission: $8.00. (Socks must be worn to rent skates!)
